INFANT BABY HAIR PULLING

We never know from where the toddlers can pick up some of the most annoying habits. Most of them are harmless and with growing age and maturity, they vanish. One of such habits is a child pulling his own hair, which hurts him too. They may even have bald spots and parents are worried whether their children need behavior therapy as a corrective action. Here are some tips that you can use to handle hair-pulling children:

  • A journal may help you to point things or situations that can trigger hair pulling in children. This will help you to find the real stressors and bust them. Helping the child to deal with the situation in a positive way may help him to learn that there are better ways to deal with things rather than pull out his hair.
  • Ignore habits that are not harming children because using force and intervening strictly may result in bigger problems for you. Children may just be trying release stress and relieve their tension by pulling their hair like adults or trying to emphasize that they have full control over their body. They think that they can do anything with their hair because they are lord and master of their own bodies. The best thing will be to help the child work out the real reason and feelings for this habit.
  • Smile and be friendly as you tell the child that pulling out her hair is only damaging to her beauty and how beautiful her hair are except for the bald spots. You can then encourage the child to try and get her pretty hair back.
  • Teach the child other ways or substitute habits to deal with stress that are more harmless rather than pulling her hair such as counting to ten or punching his pillow.
  • Whenever the child tries to reach his or her hair, try to distract them with any activity or game that will keep their hands busy and arrest their attention for sometime, until the urge goes away.
  • You can play dress-up games with young girls and even boys and buy then beautiful hats or caps that are just the right size for their heads to cover bald spots. This will also make it more difficult for the child to reach their hair and pull them out.
