BREAST FEEDING TWIN BABIES
Most pediatricians recommend that for the first two months, one should feed infants on demand. However, it is not so easy to manage twins in this way, especially in the night. Following this rule generally results in feeding one baby when he starts crying and the moment you have nursed him and he gets back to sleep, another one wakes up and starts crying and needs the feeding. Parents of twins and multiples said that from their real-life experiences they have learnt that it is much better that when one baby cries for the feeding, another one should be waken up too and both the babies should be fed simultaneously. Thus, they will both have their stomachs full and will remain quiet or sleep at least for an hour, giving you time to catch up on your sleep a little. If you don’t have many hands to help, it is better to accept that you cannot be trim and proper for sometime now and push and cut on cleaning a little to have some more time to nap and give yourself the necessary rest time. Similarly, while moms of singletons often have to eat quite fast or while they are doing other household chores, moms of twins and multiples are denied this luxury. Moms in the latter category need to eat and drink even more to give them more energy and keep up their milk supply for two or more babies. Thus, it is better that they assign nursing stations where they nurse their babies and have water and food for themselves too, so that they can nurse and eat too. Other things that you might to keep within reach of your nursing station are a remote control, telephone and reading material.
